If you experience radio connection issues between collector and total station:
- Check battery levels of the tablet or controller and the Total Station. Batteries with less than a 10% charge are known to cause intermittent connection or limited range issues.
- Ensure the controller is not in "airplane mode"
- Swap antennas, if possible, to test range and connection with a known good antenna. NOTE: Always keep a spare, working antenna that has been tested and validated to work properly. These industry standard antennas are wear items with an expected lifespan of about one year.
- Remove and reattach EM120 radio module by unscrewing the 2 small Philips screws on module. (the newer collectors stylus also serves as a small Philips screwdriver). If still a no go, see below
- Does the module show up when you go to EmpowerHub App or does it say "no hardware detected on both bays?
- If it shows up, go back to Access and try to connect.
- When you go to "radio settings" in TA, does the radio version load properly? If not, go to the "options" button at bottom of screen and ensure the port is set to "internal radio
- If Em120 doesn’t show up in EmpowerHub…..see further steps below
- Ensure Windows or Android OS updates are all done depending on whether your using a TSC7 or TSC5
- Ensure Trimble Access software is running latest version
- Ensure all Empower related components are up to date:
- For Android device you can check the Play Storefor updates (install all Trimble or Empower related updates)
- Please note, You don't need to be signed in with a google account to do this, simply click on the 3 dots in upper right corner of Play Store screen and click on updates.
- For Windows, please see the Trimble Update Tool bulletin which explains a utility to install on TSC7, T7, or T100 that will auto update Empower components
- Reset the EM120 module bulletin (This bulletin explain how to reset the module and includes some other good radio troubleshooting tips)
- At this point it is most likely a hardware related issue with the EM120 module or the radio in the total station. Try to pinpoint which has the issue by swapping out and testing other Em120 modules and/or total stations.
- If you discover it's not a hardware issue in step 6, Last resort, wipe and reinstall OS of device after backing up Trimble Data folder
